Artist Statement — P. Michnikowski

I am a sculptor developing a personal language rooted in ceramic relief and spatial form. I work with many individually shaped and glazed elements, joining them into structures defined by material richness and subtle light.

Silence, calm, and harmony matter more to me than narrative. My works are created as a counterbalance to the sensory excess of the contemporary world — guiding the viewer toward clarity and contemplation.

I see the firing process as a metaphor of transformation: from pliability, through fire, to the preservation of what is essential.

For many years, I have explored relationships between sculpture and music. I am interested in the rhythm of surfaces, the pauses between elements, and the way light behaves like sound — shifting in intensity, building tension, creating flow. I want my works to resonate with viewers the way music does: subtly yet deeply.
