Piotr Michnikowski (born 1960 in Warsaw) is a sculptor and interdisciplinary artist. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, diploma in 1985 from the studio of Professor Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz at the Faculty of Sculpture.
He is the creator of intimate sculptures in bronze and ceramics, as well as instrument sculptures, sometimes taking the form of installations. One of his distinctive and unique projects is a series of reliefs fired using the RAKU technique, which utilizes the painterly quality of ceramic glazes. He works using his own techniques and recipes, developed over many years. In addition to sculpture, he also engages in music and writing.
In his creative work, he explores the relationships and differences between the impact of various art genres on the viewer, searching for subconscious responses to the materials and processes used, as well as the meanings hidden within them. One of his favorite themes is discovering similarities between form (sculpture) and sound (music). His inspiration, as he himself describes, comes from within, from meditation and close contact with nature.
His work includes numerous solo exhibitions and several group exhibitions, including: exhibition at Haus am See (Hannover, 1992), "Ceramics and Sculpture" (BRAMA gallery, Warsaw, 1995), "Ceramics and Color" (BRAMA gallery, Warsaw, 1996), "Ceramics and Sound" (CPK gallery, Praga-Południe, Warsaw, 1996), "Ceramics – Structures, Meanings", at the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko (1994) where he also led an open-air workshop for sculptors under the same title, "Sculpture" (Zapiecek Gallery, Warsaw, 2001), "Twenty Years Later" (DAP Gallery, Warsaw, 2005), "Sculpture with Music" (Zapiecek Gallery, Warsaw, 2005), "PLEXUS" (Imaginarium gallery, Łódź, 2019), "Kieves of Colors" (PROM Kultury, Warsaw, 2023).
